Artist's Comments

This a better one than the picture I put up before, I took off the big white boxes that had surrounded the picture before. I know it's not that big of a picture but it's still a really good shot, actually I would say it's the best one that we got of Havasu Falls.

Yeah it's so weird, I still have no idea how the water even gets into the canyon through this side canyon. It really is a mysterious oasis there.

I love this place! One of my favorite places I've visited. Plan to visit it again some time soon, I hope.

I don't know when they're going to reopen the place but hopefully it's sometime soon. I'd honestly love to go back there with professional photo equipment and lots of memory/film and I know it'd be tough to do but having scuba gear to explore some of those hidden water pools and some rock climbing equipment to explore the bottomless pit in that quartz mine would be really cool. I honestly want to know if someone fell into that or anything like that.

wait, they closed it? flooding? too much erosion?
I know that someone named Moony died at Moony falls, hence the name. Lol.

There was a massive flood there in August 2008. Because of that flood Navajo Falls is now dry, 50 Foot Falls is collapsed, Havasu Falls now takes a new course of direction over the wall there, a huge chunk of cliffs came off at Mooney Falls and Beaver Falls was severely damaged but I forget what exactly happened to it. Havasu Creek now flows dangerously close to the village cemetary and the campsites were just about destoryed by the floods. It might even be next year when they reopen the area for campers.

wow. such a shame to see such a beautiful place altered so much and the village in such peril. I hope they get it worked out and reopened. id love to visit again some time.

Actually the village was never really in much danger; it was just those few outlying houses that were damaged even to some degree. I haven't checked to see if they're planning on reopening the area for tourists but if it's not some time this summer I'm sure it'll be open next year sometime.
